Update

The team had a strong showing a few weeks ago in the Ivy League tournament, losing close games to Harvard and Dartmouth and beating Yale for the first time in our history. Brown had a solid semi-final loss against a very good Cornell team, who went on to repeat as tournament champions.

This upcoming weekend, we have two home games. First is our home opener and inaugural game versus our rival from across College Hill, RISD. We expect a lot of fans from both schools and a great atmosphere! Next on Saturday we host Babson, who will be looking to avenge their loss to us earlier in the season.

After that, we will be off for finals and winter break, returning in late January.

A new season starts off with a win

The 2012-2013 season started Saturday with a 79-77 win at Babson College. The Bears played very well, with key offensive and defensive contributions from Q Kim, Eric Tung and newcomer Sam Bresnick. The game was close the whole way, with no team ever leading by more than 6 points. Up 1 at halftime, Brown came out strong in the second half, but missed crucial free throws down the stretch stopping them from pulling away. In the end, Brown's defense prevailed, leading to the 2 point victory.

Next up, Ivy League Tournament!

Win vs. Babson

The Bears had a great win against Babson on Saturday, despite some bumps in the road that pushed tip-off back to 6:15. We had our fullest roster of the season, welcoming some newcomers as well as the veterans. The Bears came out hot, hitting 5 three-pointers in the first 5 minutes, and did not cool down through the first half. A strong Babson team upped the physicality in the second half and beat the Bears down low, but good free throw shooting down the stretch helped Brown pull out the W by 3, 81-78.

Fall 2011

The Brown club basketball team is back in action this fall.
We play our first games November 5-6 at Harvard in the Ivy League tournament. This is the first time all 6 Ivy League teams will be together for an event.
We will then travel to Northeastern on November 12 for a 1 PM tip-off.
More games are currently being scheduled for late November and early December.

The team is looking really strong, and we will definitely compete with the best club teams in the nation this year.

Recap

It's been a while since I've posted, but I wanted to recap the past few weeks.

We played Babson at home on February 6th. We were leading big in the first half, but the Babson team fought back and made the second half very back-and-forth. We lost a heartbreaker in the end by 4 points.

We also got really awesome uniforms (tops, shorts, shoes) and I want to thank the guys in the club sports department for helping us out a lot with that.

Hopefully we will get a game in this weekend, and we are looking forward to playing Dartmouth and maybe others after spring break.

First Weekend

We had a great first weekend of competition. On Saturday we hosted Harvard, Yale and King's College (NY) at the OMAC. Yale won the round-robin tournament, finishing 3-0.
Brown lost in close games to Harvard and Yale and beat King's College by 35.

On Sunday we traveled to Boston to face Northeastern. Undermanned, we fought valiantly in the second half before losing by 4.

Overall, the weekend was a great success. We played very close games with established teams, and we were not at full strength. We look forward to playing and competing with these teams in the future.

Next up is Babson on Saturday.

Initial Interest

So far, just by Brown Morning Mail and word of mouth, over 25 people have expressed initial interest in playing competitive club basketball at Brown, ranging from First-Years to Seniors.

If you or someone you know would be interested, send an email to BrownClubBasketball@gmail.com with your name and class year. The initial list will be submitted soon as a part of the club registration process, and we want the list to be as long as possible.

Starting from scratch

Hey, and welcome to the website for the Brown University Men's Club Basketball team. We are just starting up, looking for prospective players, teams to compete against, and connections throughout the northeast. In the future I'll post our roster, schedule/results, pictures, game recaps, and other comments to let everyone know what's going on with the team.

Right now we are in the process of finalizing our proposal to the Brown Department of Athletics and Physical Education (DAPE). I am very confident that our proposal will be accepted, and with fundraising efforts, we can have a completely functional team in 2011. As part of the proposal we are actively recruiting students who are interested in playing, and researching/networking with teams in the area to schedule games and tournaments.

For more information, or to contact us about joining the team or competing against us, shoot an email to BrownClubBasketball@gmail.com.

Check back soon for more updates.
